The Pilates Method

Pilates is a form of exercise which co-ordinates the working of the muscles, with the breathing; it tones the whole body and improves the posture. Pilates follows a carefully developed method perfected over a period of more than 70 years of experience and observation, since being invented by Joseph Pilates in the early 1920's. The crucial feature of Pilates, in comparison with some other techniques, is that it focuses on how you perform an exercise and carry yourself in daily life.

Former ballerina Karen Smith, teaches the Pilates method at her studio which is in the New London Performing Arts Centre, St James' Lane, Muswell Hill.
